Born and raised on the North side of Chicago, Elizabeth Barone has extensive knowledge of the city and its neighborhoods. Her great-grandfather and grandfather started their own brokerage back in 1966, so one could say that Elizabeth has real estate in her blood! She’s now part of one of the top producing @properties teams, The Barone Group.
What was the reason you decided to get into real estate?
“My family has been in the business for over 25 years. I worked as a front desk admin for @properties for 3 years and decided it was time I start selling. I also had built in mentors :).”
When you’re not busy showing homes and negotiating offers, what extracurricular activity or hobby consumes your time?
“I love spending time and traveling with my husband. Hoping for Paris in September!”
What Chicago neighborhood or hot spot are you most likely to be spotted in after a long day of work?
“I love Lake View. Whether it be the Friendly Confines or a restaurant on Southport, Lake View is always my go to.”
What’s the one thing you’re sure to recommend doing/seeing in Chicago when out-of-state friends/family come to visit?
“I love taking my friends and family from out of state down to River North or just a walk down Michigan Avenue.”
What makes you different from other real estate agents?
“Real Estate is truly my passion. It’s a tough business, but the most humbling and rewarding business. I find that my clients quickly turn into good friends and that is one of my favorite reasons why I love my job. While real estate may only seem like a business, I find that searching for a neighborhood, a condo, or single family home is the most personal decision people can make in their lives. I love the personal aspect of the business. Finding someone their first home where they will make their favorite memories is why I do what I do.”
Do you specialize in any particular type of real estate or specific type of deal?
“I specialize in first time home buyers, but also transitioning to a listing agent in Lake View.”
How do you leverage technology to help you be one of the best in the industry?
“Between Snapchat, Instagram, and Facebook Live, I love giving buyers and sellers a live first look at what goes on in the life of a real estate broker when it comes to the early steps of buying or selling. Technology consumes us and it seems to be my go-to when I market myself and what listings I have coming on the market.”
Tell us about the most unique or interesting home you’ve ever shown.
“The most unique home I ever showed had a basement that actually felt like you are at a Blackhawks game. From the black, white, and red stripes on the wall, to the concrete floor that shined just like the ice, and the buzzer that went off anytime the Hawks scored in any town. It was like being at the Madhouse.”
Any “bloopers” during showings that you’re willing to share?
“I was showing a home that needed a full gut rehab to a client and when we went into the basement there was a family of squirrels living in one of the closets!”
What is your real estate spirit animal and why?
“Not so much what, but who. My grandfather, Matt Barone, is my real estate spirit animal. He sold all over the city for years and owned his own brokerage. He owns several buildings in the city and you can usually find him at Wrigley Field or his townhome in Florida. I mean, the guy lives the dream!”
